The Medical Insurance Billing and Coding certificate program can get you started on a rewarding career. PCI’s program provides you with a solid foundation in the critical skills needed in medical billing and coding practices. As a successful graduate, you should be prepared to enter the healthcare field in billing and coding. Throughout your training, you will be provided with technological competencies and interpersonal strategies required of medical office professionals. You will also gain understanding of the value and importance of correct billing and coding. With our program, you will be prepared to take the AAPC for apprentice-level certification (CPC-A).

Pinnacle Career Institute's Medical Billing and Coding program prepares you to begin your career faster. You will be ready to work in an administrative or clerical position in the medical office setting. You will study insurance processing, administrative office techniques, medical records, appointment scheduling, transcribing, and billing and coding. Classes contain lecture and lab. Upon completion of this program, you should be able to:

  • Demonstrate keyboarding, word processing and computer skills
  • Understand and apply medical office organizational techniques
  • Understand and perform insurance billing and coding using ICD-9, HCPCS and CPT for physician and health offices
  • Function effectively in a medical setting
  • Understand the ethics and HIPAA requirements and obligations in medical billing and coding
  • Coordinate a successful job search
  • Apply this certification as one year of experience toward the CPC requirements
  • Communicate orally and in writing in a concise, clear manner
  • Recognize and apply management and human relations skills and techniques

As a graduate from this program, you may apply for a variety of employment opportunities. Options are available in medical facilities, including hospitals, clinics, medical offices, health departments, health research firms, insurance companies and laboratories, Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), and medical billing and collection agencies.
