Pinnacle Career Institute's Medical Billing and Coding program prepares you to begin your career faster. Your training can take you to administrative or clerical positions in medical office settings, and you can study topics such as insurance processing, administrative office techniques, medical records, appointment scheduling, transcribing, and billing and coding. Classes contain lecture and lab, and a minimum of one hour per week is devoted to professional development techniques. Upon completion of this program, you should be able to:
- Demonstrate keyboarding, word processing and computer skills
- Understand and apply medical office organizational techniques
- Understand and perform billing and coding using ICD-9, HCPCS and CPT for physician and health offices
- Function effectively in a medical setting
- Understand the ethics and HIPAA requirements and obligations in medical billing and coding
- Coordinate a successful job search
- Apply this certification as one year of experience toward the CPC requirements (Associate of Occupational Studies degree graduates only)
- Communicate orally and in writing in a concise, clear manner
- Recognize and apply management and human relations skills and techniques
As a graduate from this program, you may apply for a variety of employment opportunities. Options are available in medical facilities, including hospitals, clinics, medical offices, health departments, health research firms, insurance companies and laboratories, Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), and medical billing and collection agencies.
